The Islamic vision for environmental sustainability
23/12/2025

Environmental sustainability is a necessity in Islam, as Islamic law urges the preservation of the environment and protecting it from any pollution or destruction. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Qur'an: “And do not cause corruption upon the earth after its reformation” (Al-A'raf: 56), which clearly shows that humans must preserve the earth and not corrupt it.
Islam calls for environmental balance by using natural resources responsibly, so that they are utilized without waste or depletion. It is mentioned in the noble hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “Indeed, Allah loves when one of you does a work that he perfects,” indicating that the exploitation of resources should be done carefully and without extravagance.
The message that Islam conveys regarding the environment is the necessity of preserving the ecosystem and enhancing sustainability through practices that ensure the protection and balance of the earth for future generations.
