The impact of Westernization on Islamic identity
15/12/2025

Westernization is a term used to refer to the cultural and intellectual influences that adopt Western concepts and ideologies, which may affect Islamic identity. In recent years, there has been a significant challenge to Islamic identity in many Islamic countries due to the influence of modernity and Western traditions.
One of the most prominent aspects of Westernization is the attempts to imitate Western lifestyles in clothing, education, and information technology. However, these influences may weaken social cohesion and distance people from their authentic Islamic values.
Islam encourages adherence to Islamic values, while allowing the benefit from Western sciences and technologies in a manner consistent with Sharia. Therefore, Muslims should preserve their cultural and religious identity and ensure that their acceptance of Western influences is done in a way that respects the teachings of their religion.
