The importance of knowledge in Islam

Knowledge in Islam is considered one of the highest values, as the Holy Quran and the prophetic Sunnah encourage seeking and learning it. Allah says in the Quran: “Say, My Lord, increase me in knowledge” (Ta-Ha: 114), which is a supplication from the Prophet, peace be upon him, asking for an increase in knowledge from Allah.
Islam encourages the pursuit of knowledge in all areas of life, whether they are scientific or religious, because knowledge is the means through which a person can achieve righteousness in both their faith and worldly affairs. A Muslim should strive to acquire knowledge that benefits them in both their religion and worldly life and to act upon it.
Scholars in Islam hold a great status, as it is reported in the noble hadith: “Indeed, the scholars are the heirs of the prophets.” Therefore, society should respect scholars and benefit from their knowledge in all aspects of life.
