Monotheism: The Oneness of God

12/12/2025

Tawheed is the foundational principle of Islamic belief and is considered one of the most important concepts of the religion. Tawheed means the complete belief in the oneness of Allah Almighty, and not believing in any partner with Him in His lordship, names, and attributes. It has been stated in the Holy Quran: "Allah, there is no deity except Him" (Al-Baqarah: 255).

Types of Tawheed are varied, and they are: Tawheed of Lordship (the belief that Allah is the creator of the universe and its controller), Tawheed of Worship (the belief that worship is only permissible for Allah), and Tawheed of Names and Attributes (the belief in all that has been mentioned of Allah's names and attributes in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah).

A Muslim must establish Tawheed in his life by worshipping Allah alone, avoiding shirk (association), and directing all his actions and sayings to Allah.
